How long does my online class last?
Your online class may meet the same length of time as on-campus classes. If there are special meeting times (i.e. short session courses), the dates will be listed in the class schedule. Contact your instructor if you need more information.

Where and when does my online class meet?
Your online class may require that you attend an on campus orientation. Consult with your instructor to determine if this is a requirement for your class. An online orientation is available at www.swc.cc.ca.us, click on Online Learning. Some instructors will require that you meet on campus to take tests. Other instructors may require that you meet in online discussion boards, or virtual classrooms, with a study group.Generally, your class work can be completed online within the calendar dates set by your instructor. This does not mean that online classes are self-paced. You must meet deadline dates to complete assignments set by your instructor just as you would in an on campus class.

What hours will my online class be available?
One of the key benefits of your online class is that it's ALWAYS available. The Internet is available 24 hours a day and so is your online class. This does not mean you will be able to complete a semester's worth of work in one week. Your instructor will determine the pace of your course. This simply means your instructor may make tests, assignments and projects available only for a certain length of time. This allows you and your classmates to work through the course together and it promotes interaction with your classmates and your instructor.

Will I have to purchase a textbook?

How will I receive my class assignments?

When you first contact your instructor he/she will give you details on communication methods.Refer to the online student orientation, www.swc.cc.ca.us, click on Online Learning and click on Student Orientation about how to post assignments and how to use discussion boards. Ask your instructor if you have any trouble.

How much time will I have to devote to my online class?
Students often have the misconception that because a class is online that it will not be as challenging as the on-campus version. In fact, the opposite is true. Although online classes do not take place in a traditional classroom, you should expect to spend as much, if not more time and energy to successfully complete an online class. Just like in the traditional classroom, you are expected to complete assignments, take tests, write papers and participate in discussions.

How will I be graded?

You will be graded much like in a traditional class. You will be evaluated on various assignments, tests, quizzes, papers and projects that are required by your instructor. How can I ask questions regarding my online class?
